Cherokee Avenue Bike Lane Update May 2021

The Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) appreciates your patience as we continue to implement a protected bike lane along Cherokee Avenue as part of the Mayor’s Action Plan for Safer Streets. Thank you all for the recent feedback on the new concrete barricades.
We want to emphasize that we understand the frustration that can arise from long construction phases and not-quite-complete projects. Our team is working hard to bring this project to completion.
The concrete barricades are a necessary interim phase needed to ensure safe conditions for people biking until the installation of flex posts, wheel stops, and additional signage is complete. This work is planned for summer 2021. Our plan for the final protective barriers will look similar to, but not exactly like, the below photos of similar installations in the city.

While we work on this final phase, we are also working to increase parking enforcement to keep people from parking in the bicycle lane. We anticipate that as people adapt to the new conditions, in conjunction with the enforcement and signage, that the problematic parking behaviors will change.
We will continue to monitor this space and adjust to any new safety concerns that arise. Thank you for your patience and for sharing your thoughts with us. We look forward to a completed project soon. If you have any further concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.Questions can be emailed to ATLDOT@AtlantaGa.gov
