Atlanta mayor unveils $5M plan to create safer streets, triple protected bike lane network

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms this morning unveiled a $5 million plan to make 20 miles of intown streets more accommodating and safer for non-drivers.

Bottoms’s action plan, a highly anticipated response to recent e-scooter-related injuries and fatalities, is projected to triple the amount of protected bike lanes within city limits before the end of 2021, her office told Curbed Atlanta.

The project aims to put 20 high-traffic—and oftentimes, dangerous—city corridors through “rapid implementation changes to improve safety for people who walk, drive, take transit, or ride a bike or e-scooter,” according to a City of Atlanta press release.
