Nighttime Lane Closures on SR 154/Memorial Dr this weekend for Resurfacing

Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) contractors will begin the final phase of the SR 154/Memorial Drive Improvements Project this weekend.  The project is designed to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians along the corridor in DeKalb and Fulton counties, and  replaced roadway’s reversible lanes with designated left turn lanes at key intersections and improved pedestrian crossings.

Memorial Drive Project Update

From GDOT:

We truly appreciate your patience as our contractors worked to prepare Memorial Drive for its new configuration without the reversible lanes between Pearl Street and Candler Road.  We know that the night time work of lowering the manholes and re-striping the lanes may have caused residents in the immediate area some temporary inconvenience, but with the new striping now in place, we hope that now you are also benefiting from all the preparatory work.

The temporary striping that is now in place is designed to orient drivers to Memorial Drive’s new lane configuration with the reversible lanes replaced by turn lanes at key intersections and pedestrian crossing safe zones. This striping will remain in place through the end of March, giving drivers two weeks to become familiar with the new lanes and traffic signals.

The next phase of this project will begin April 1, weather permitting, as contractors work to improve the condition of the roadway, apply new asphalt and lay new permanent striping in the new lane configuration.  We anticipate that contractors will begin milling operations at Pearl Street and move eastbound to Candler, but that plan may change. Please note crews will be using heavy equipment for milling and paving operations— expect intermittent noise.

This work will require lane closures to keep drivers and workers safe. We encourage you to drive carefully and allow additional travel time to your destinations while the lane closures are in place.  This project is scheduled for a June 2019 completion, so our impacts to your travel routines will be short-lived in exchange for long-term safety and mobility benefits.

Again, thank you for your patience as GDOT works to reduce traffic speeds and crashes, and improve safety and mobility on the Memorial Drive corridor.

Atlanta BeltLine Southwest + Southeast Study Group Public Meeting – Subarea 2 Master Plan Update

885B81F0-F720-45A2-ADCC-89491CCED995

The purpose of this meeting is to share findings from previous public meetings and the draft final recommendations for land use (e.g. mixed use, housing, commercial services), mobility (e.g. trails, sidewalks, bikes, transit), parks and greenspace in BeltLine Subarea 2.

In 2007, master planning began by looking at the one-half mile on either side of the Atlanta BeltLine corridor to create a framework to support future growth and transit in the corridor. There are 10 distinct subarea masterplans for the Atlanta BeltLine and they are subject to periodic review and adoption by City Council.
