Help GA respond to COVID-19

Starting in 2012, GAgives was created as a way to connect Georgians to nonprofits and has now become Georgia’s biggest day of giving, raising more than $28 million. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak in our state, we are encouraging citizens to use our platform to search and donate to causes that matter to them and help nonprofits and the communities they serve.

Be smart and stay safe on the Atlanta BeltLine!

We are grateful to our community for joining us to help #FlattenTheCurve. As the weather warms up, it is nice to step outside to take in some fresh air. Staying safe is still critically important. In support of efforts to further ensure social distancing and the safety of Atlanta residents, City of Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has implemented the following trail usage guidelines for the Atlanta BeltLine.

6 – 10 a.m. We are prioritizing access to the trail for older adults, people with disabilities, and those with compromised health conditions (asthma, respiratory conditions, etc.)

10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Normal daily exercise, such as walking, running, cycling, etc. for those who do not have alternative access to trails or transportation.

After 2 p.m. The trail should be used for only work and emergency-related travel

For trail users buying essentials, getting some fresh air and exercise, or walking the stir-crazy pet (or kid), here are some friendly reminders:

  • Avoid peak trail hours
  • Stay at a safe distance (6-10 feet)
  • Keep moving
  • Drink water regularly
  • Wash and sanitize hands often

BikeMatch Program – Atlanta Bicycle Coalition

From the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition…

“The Atlanta Bike Coalition, in partnership with the Sopo Bicycle Cooperative and the Atlanta Students Advocating for Pedestrians, is providing transportation options to those in need during these times. Essential workers and those making essential trips to the grocery store, to the pharmacy, or to pick up a meal for a neighbor or family member are letting us know they need bikes.”

“We are ‘matching’ bike donators to people who need bikes. If you have or know someone who has a bike that is no longer being used please consider donating it, by filling out this form https://www.atlantabike.org/bikematch. We are connecting people, because in times of crisis it is unity that gets us through.”

Atlanta School Board Names Superintendent Finalist

Please take a look at this article from the AJC about the finalist for the Atlanta Public School Superintendent.

And, from the Board of Education… “We want you – our students, families, supporters and staff – to get to know Dr. Herring, the finalist for APS Superintendent! Due to current social distancing measures, we’ll be hosting virtual meetings, so you’ll still have an opportunity to get your questions answered. Visit our Superintendent Search page or email us at atlantaboard@atlanta.k12.ga.us to submit your questions. State law requires 14 days between the announcement of a final candidate and making the appointment official but given the distancing measures in place due to coronavirus, we may extend that period. You can also submit your questions over the phone at (404) 802-2267, or my mailing it to the Atlanta Board of Education, 130 Trinity Avenue SE, Atlanta, Georgia 30303.”
