Stay safe, warm and save money as temperatures drop. Georgia Power offers tips to help customers as winter weather sets in.

As winter temperatures begin to drop, Georgia Power encourages customers to keep safety in mind and offers safety tips to help prevent electrical fires.

Georgia Power reminds customers to stay safe with the following home safety tips:

1. Keep space heaters away from furniture, curtains, sinks, tubs and water. Do not lay rugs or carpet over the cord. Do not use heaters if the cord is frayed or broken, and do not use an extension cord. Turn off heaters before leaving home or going to bed.

2. Check for outlets that have loose-fitting plugs, exposed wires or broken plates. Have them fixed by a qualified electrician.

3. Prevent overloading equipment and circuits. It can cause insulation to burn, create sparks and leave exposed wires.

4. Prevent oil and dirt buildup on electrical appliances which can cause electrical equipment to overheat and short-circuit.

5. Know where the nearest fire extinguishers are and how to use them. Only Class C extinguishers are safe to use on energized electrical equipment.

Trees Atlanta 2019 Canopy Conference

8c6a3f9b-0b04-404b-94a2-613dd034a709Have you heard the term ‘Food Forest’? A food forest is defined as an edible ecosystem designed and managed to provide food, medicine, fuel, and habitat for all of its community members.

Is it possible that Atlanta, the ” City in the Forest” is actually a food forest in itself?

What does it mean if it is?

There are as many questions about food forests as there are answers, but it’s clear that there is a momentum to create abundant ecosystems within our cities. This year, Trees Atlanta will be diving into the world of sustainable foods and Food Forests with keynote speakers Janisse Ray and Dave Jacke at the 2019 Canopy Conference.
